If you’ve ever wondered about Bali , step inside Palm Beach restaurant Masakan

Owner Doris Jaa has created a little slice of the Indonesian Island so loved by Australian travelers and many Europeans.

The tastes and aromas of Bali permeate the restaurant which is decorated in true Balinese style complete with bamboo poles and thatched roofs.

Lose yourself in one of the candle lit private booths and imagine distant shores

  • In the West beef rendang is perhaps the best known of the many Indonesian dishes while the satay sticks of beef or chicken with peanut dipping sauce are among the most popular.
  • An extensive menu takes diners along the culinary highway offering soups, satays, noodles, a range of meat dishes, sea foods and curries while vegetarian meals feature well.
  • For starters there are soups such as the authentic Javanese Soto Ayam with shredded chicken and lightly steamed vegetables.
  • Kanape, a Dutch Indonesian pancake filled with diced chicken and vegetables served with homemade peanut sauce is well worth a try as is Otak Otak the spicy fish cakes.
  • A hawker dish such as Taogeh Goreng:  fresh, crunchy bean sprouts lightly sautéed in chilli soya bean paste and fresh herbs is something different to try.
  • Gulei Kambing is a curry which originated in Jakarta: tender lean lamb fillets simmered with 20 different spices, simply delicious. The coconut rice is a house specialty and of course, as in Bali, noodle dishes are always popular.

There is more, much more to be enjoyed in this delightful corner of Balinese Culture
